CHRISTMAS BOX MODEL

STONE COBBLE PATH

MAIN CHRISTMAS PROJECT

FAVOURITE THING:

I thoroughly enjoy model making, it's really fun and exciting when things start to come together and look really realistic. From a bit of white board and paint, you can make anything as intricate as you want. This is easily my favourite project and skill so far at University.

MAKING A SET OF STAIRS

Measuring up the box width and length, I knew I had to make a set of stairs that softly curved around, but I knew it had to stay within the box, not be too big and also doesn't end in the middle of the box, obstructing the view of the tunnel.

I made the basic shaping onto mount-board and stuck pieces of mount-board together on the curve of the top staircase to get that twist evenly.

ADDING THE PAINT AND BULK:

Using Acrylic paint, I mixed grey, orange, brown and white as a mixture, I was able to get that natural stone colour.

MATERIALS/ITEMS I USED:

Items/Materials I Used:

Mountboard

Scapel

Polyfiller

Paint (Grey, orange, brown, white)

Paintbrush, normal and one thats splintered for a dry effect

STARTING WITH THE TUNNEL:

Firstly, I measured how big the tunnel needed to be in order to fit the train through. The tunnel needed to be 5cm wide and 10cm high, and for the tunnel to have a curvature; according to the train tracks.

ADDING THE DETAILS:

One I had the staircase and tunnel in mount-board that was fitted well in my box, I went ahead and placed the bricks and cobblestones onto it. To add that rough detail it needed to act as a type of cement, I added Pollyfiller mixed with a little bit of water.
